The Week in Review is a collection of things or links to be precise, of news stories and whatnots I’ve found interesting. In general these are video game related although other items such as technology or pieces of other related news filter into this feed every once in a while.
And with that, lets jump into the action:
1 – Apple announced their Arcade service is set to launch in more than 150 countries on September 19th. Costing $4.99 per month customers will have access to around 100 games from launch with more being added each month. Players and play away either on or offline and a subscription can be shared amongst 5 Apple devices linked to the same account. I put together a quick overview video on the product which can be found here.
2 – As reported via The Verge and other outlets, KickStarter one of the places where indie game developers can be found looking to raise funds for their projects faced a backlash after allegedly firing two employees involved in ongoing unionisation efforts.
3 – In the UK, a Parliamentary committee recommends banning loot box sales to Children and they should be regulated like Gambling. The report suggests the industry’s representatives are “wilfully obtuse” on the matter.
4 – Nintendo announced something so very Nintendo with its Ring Fit offering. Launching October 18th, this Ring-Con and leg strap doohickey is a similar concept to the Wii Fit from back in the day.
5 – EGX, one of the UK’s largest game shows is almost a month away and has moved from Birmingham back to London. For more info on the show the EGX website is starting to show off all sorts of news as the event draws near.
6 – I came across this awesome drone racing footage from within an abandoned coal factory in France. It’s total bonkers!
With that, many thanks for reading!
