The Top 10 Indie Games of PAX West 2018

What looks worth your time checking out this weekend in Seattle?

With this year’s PAX West in full swing and looking a decidedly civil affair crowd size wise compared to Gamescom, here’s the top 10 indie games of PAX West 2018 we think you should check out:

My Friend Pedro

My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. The strategic use of split aiming, slow motion, and the ol’ stylish window breach create one sensational action sequence after another in an explosive battle through the violent underworld.

Tunic

The Zelda-ish action RPG, which first showed up at E3 last year at the PC Gaming Show, looks lovely as always.  All this comes from a single developer and should be out at some point next year via the folks at Finji.

Praey for the Gods

In Praey for the Gods, you play a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter. Arriving with only the clothes on your back, you must survive the colossal dangers that you encounter. To restore balance and reclaim the land from the brink, you will be faced with questions that not even a God knows the answer to.

Tick Tock: A Tale for Two

Tick Tock: A Tale for Two is a co-op adventure where you and your friend get trapped by the skilful clockmaker Amalie Ravn. In order to escape you need to navigate a magical clock world filled with secrets and puzzles. The only problem is… neither of you have the full picture.

Prepare yourselves for a narrative experience where your communication skills are put to the test. Read out loud to each other, discuss what you see, and combine the information on your two screens to get closer to the truth and your ultimate escape.

Play on any two devices, local or remotely, all you need is a voice connection.

Lonely Mountains: Downhill

Already a firm favourite of ours here at Get Indie Gaming, Lonely Mountains Downhill sees you throwing you and your bike down the face of numerous mountains.  This looks pure old fashioned fun with a stunning art style and humorous rag doll player physics.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium is a groundbreaking blend of hardboiled cop show and isometric RPG. Solve a massive, open ended case in a unique urban fantasy setting. Kick in doors, interrogate suspects, or just get lost exploring the gorgeously rendered city of Revachol and unraveling its mysteries. Tough choices need to be made. What kind of cop you are — is up to you.

UnDungeon

UnDungeon is a beautiful and complex Action/RPG pixel art game with a rich background, immersive story and seven unique characters.

Samurai Gunn 2

Announced earlier this week during the Nindies Summer Showcase, Samurai Gunn 2.  The original game pit 2-4 pixel art samurai in a fairly large arena armed with swords and pistols, with death coming from one hit of either weapon. Samurai Gunn 2 looks to work in the same kind of way which should ensure lots of fast paced in game action.

Risk of Rain 2

Risk of Rain 2 is a 3D action rogue-lite that brings you back to the mysterious crash site of the Contact Light. No run will ever be the same with randomized stages, monsters, bosses, items, and more. Play solo or team up with friends in online multiplayer to fight your way through hordes of monsters and find a way to escape.

Boyfriend Dungeon

Boyfriend Dungeon is an action-RPG dungeon crawler in which the weapons you use transform into beautiful people – take them on dates to level them up and become more powerful together.

For a full overview of the games on display, why not check out the full PAX West 2018 trailer blow.  While nearly 20 mins long, it’s a great watch and well worth settling down to view.  With that, many thanks for reading
